One Day Campaign Backgrounder

One Day is about taking small steps to make Vancouver the cleanest, greenest, healthiest city in the world. It’s about creating a movement to reduce energy consumption in our homes and on the road, to preserve the Vancouver residents value so much, while limiting the harmful impacts of climate change.

  • One Day is about values – about protecting the beautiful place we live in and preserving the quality of life for our children and grandchildren. It’s about shared effort and working together.

  • One Day is about health, fitness and well-being. Walking and cycling are easy ways to stay fit and help reduce the amount of energy we use. Changing the way we move through our day also helps us slow down and take more time with our children, neighbourhoods and communities, reminding us that life doesn’t have to be quite as hectic.

  • One Day is about leadership. Vancouver can be a model for how urban populations use and consume energy. Vancouver will host the world at the 2006 World Urban Forum and the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Together we can achieve our vision of being the cleanest, greenest, healthiest city in the world.

One Day is a community engagement campaign for the City and is part of Cool Vancouver Task Force’s Community Climate Change Action Plan. The Action Plan identifies how Vancouver residents can take action to reduce climate changing greenhouse gases, to reduce our energy consumption and to create a more sustainable city.
