Vancouver's first carbon nuetral yoga studio!
Last week we wrote the cheque – $126 to Offsetters, a University of B.C.-based non-profit that sells carbon credits and donates the proceeds to projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions at source.
The amount was based on our gas and hydro bills, and our car travel to and from the studio. It covers our energy consumption for a year.
Most of the money that Offsetters has collected has gone toward ClimateCare projects in Africa. You can find more information about those projects at www.offsetters.ca.
(If you’re planning to travel with WestJet, click to their website from Offsetters, and the airline will offset the carbon costs of your flight for free.)
We wanted our money to work locally. Offsetters has already helped fund a geo-exchange system for a hospice and a first nations community centre in B.C.
Its current projects are in Richmond, where the silty soil conducts heat well and is less expensive to drill into than harder soils.
