EnerGuide Success Story
Through the CoV "oneday" initiative I embarked on having my house
tested. I'm glad I did.
Here is the Energuide rating (pdf) for my place, it is a 30 year old
town house, single glazed with and old furnace. You'll see the rating is 56 and with potential (recommended) upgrades it should reach 75.
This means the government would give me a grant of $1117 if I follow
all the recommendation, in addition to an estimated annual fuel
savings of $980. Considering I plan to some work myself and contract out only the windows and furnace replacement at a cost of $5000, it would gives me a the rate of return of;
(5000-1000)/980= 4 years or 25% not to shabby.
Given that banks charge 5% interest, anything over is a bonus, and that does not including the benefits of improved comfort.
The City has embarked on going green and has printed brochure to move toward sustainability (green) "Oneday" available from the front counter. I urge you to read it and take advantage of the incentives (limited time) and improve home comfort while helping the environment while making green.
