Could you please let me know the temperature the house should be at when they is no one at home. Usually from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thx

Controlling your thermostat is one of the easiest and most economical ways to reduce energy use and ghg emissions.  BC Hydro, BCs electricity utility, recommends 16 C, or 61 F, as the appropriate thermostat setting when you are away from home.  Making this switch while at work can result in energy savings up to 10% (if you originally had your thermostat set at 21 degrees).  BC Hydro also recommends these settings:

Sitting or watching TV - 21 C (70 F)
Working around the house - 20 C (68 F)
Sleeping - 16 C (61 F)
Your heating system will work most effectively if you set your temperature where you want it for longer periods of time (i.e. the 8 hours you are at work or are sleeping).
For more information about thermostat maintenance, programmable thermostat options, and other electricity saving tips, visit the BC Hydro website.  www.bchydro.com
