Light House: Sustainable Building Centre, guest expert series - July 21st, 2007
Each Saturday from 2-4pm, a different green building professional is invited to the Light House resource centre on Granville Island to speak about his or her area of expertise.
Thinking Different – borrowing from Apple computers – this presentation will be about how we look at buildings; how they are renovated, heated, cooled and overall – built to make them comfortable, healthy and energy efficient. Too many homeowners believe that what they have is good and that all they need to do is replace the old with the new. Unknowingly they are often not aware that there are other solutions that are far more effective, efficient and economical. Troy will focus on how one can look at their existing home or new home for that matter and think differently. Bio - Moving from a life of high tech in Ottawa, Troy and his wife started on a journey of developing their passive solar house in Ottawa Ontario. After four years of researching, designing and building their house – final energy bills topping in at a cost of $500.00 for the entire year using propane - EKOS Building Solutions was born. For the past six years, Troy has been working with leading edge architects, builders and property owners on both the east coast and the west - focusing on high performance building envelopes (building science jargon for homes, dwellings and larger buildings) that are developed with the focus on sustainable practices. EKOS works with home owners, developers and architects on building sustainable dwellings that are healthy, comfortable, and energy efficient. PLEASE RSVP to [email protected] These are free events but a donation of $2-$5 is suggested. LOCATION |
